Is CEC involved in any renewable energy initiatives?

CEC is actively participating in the global and Zambian energy transition agenda and has placed clean energy and operations at the core of its business. In 2018, CEC designed, financed and developed a pilot solar PV power plant, which became Zambia’s first grid-connected solar power plant. The 1MW Riverside solar power plant is currently being expanded to 34MW. The Company is at different stages of developing another 60MW of solar generating resource at a different site (Itimpi) in Kitwe. Further, CEC is involved in a hybrid project involving solar, wind and battery storage, in addition to small to medium-sized hydropower prospects. CEC also owns a biodiesel production plant with the capacity to produce 900,000 litres per annum of an environmentally friendly and low-cost fuel as an alternative to fossil diesel. CEC’s biodiesel plant utilises natural feedstock such as Jatropha and soya bean seed oil, thereby giving an added economic benefit of providing a market for, mainly, small-scale farmers. The Company continues to explore ways of making its operations cleaner and greener through various initiatives
